I am taking the 100 pushup challenge. After six short weeks I should be able to take a few more than the 7 I did in the initial test today. At least I will follow the program for the next six weeks.

An update from Spain! The Spanish parliament has voted to increase the rights for monkeys in Spain. I hope more countries in Europe will follow up on this. Time for Norway to make this a nice country for animals as well!

Strange Spain

I just read an article in the NY Times about how Spain is dealing with their recent facist past. A member of the opposition told the following when talking about removing monuments put up by the dictator:

Mr. Zapatero’s conservative critics say he is using identity politics, akin to the moral values debate in America, to promote a social agenda that includes defending the rights of homosexuals, transsexuals, women and Catalans.

Wow, stop a bit here. Some politician today is against defending the rights of homosexuals, transsexuals, women and Catalans? In Norway we have discussions about which rights pedofiles and neo-nazis have, and if homosexuals should be allowed to marry. In Spain they are still unsure about women? and Catalans?

I have never understood socialist name calling, but this is just going too far. At least voting in Spain should be pretty simple.

Hedgehog in garden

Just read an article on BBC that hedgehogs have joined the protected spieces list. By coincidence we met one in the garden on the way home yesterday, and I snapped a photo. Just to prove that in Oslo they are alive. There were two of them, but one managed to escaped when I was looking for the camera.

Next car, hybrid or electric?

Our old car is showing the first signs of age. This means that I get the opportunity to start planning for it’s replacement and looking at what is available now. The only options for me are Toyota Prius and Think City. They are so different that it is more a question of pilosophy than anything else. For those that need long range (> 150 km), a hybrid is currently the only choice. If you can live with a limited range and the smaller size, electric cars are starting to be a good choice.

The future for cars is certainly electric, and combined with new renewable ways of generating electricity cars might have a place in our oil depleted future as well.

This small buffalo kid was taken first by lions, than by Crocodiles, and again by lions. Finally his flock comes back to his defence and the lions are lucky to escape alive in the end. The buffaloes prove that if you are many and determined you can beat a stronger opponent. If I knew where they live I would reward them with a nice stack of hay for the winter

Pan’s Labyrinth

Pan’s Labyrinth is a very nice and “moody” movie. This music is simply brilliant. This Mexican/Spanish/US movie feels different from most hollywood movies, and is a nice change from all the me-too follow-ups lately.
